Jabal Al Hussain is one of central Amman's long-established neighbourhoods and has been a sought-after address since the 1960s and 1970s. It falls administratively under Al Abdali and runs along Khaled bin Al Waleed Street, which separates Al Weibdeh from Al Shmesani. Older buildings sit alongside newer ones, and parts of the area overlook Downtown.
The neighbourhood is best known for its market. Shops focus on clothing and fashion at competitive prices, alongside furniture, electronics and handicraft stores, plus many restaurants and cafés. Maxim Mall is one of its main shopping centres. The market gets crowded at weekends, so earlier visits are easier.
Jabal Al Hussain park offers green space with a children's playground and a barbecue area. Well-known schools include the Frères school, the Nazareth Sisters school, Al Hussein College and Terra Sancta College, and Amman University College is also in the area. Hospitals in and around the neighbourhood include Al Kindi Hospital, the Jordan Islamic Hospital, Al Abdali Hospital and Palestine Hospital.
It suits families and young people who want a central location with shops and services close by.
