Gardens Street is the popular name for Wasfi Al Tal Street, a main road that connects Al Shmesani with Telaa Al Ali and continues towards Khalda. Administratively it belongs to Telaa Al Ali. The nickname goes back to a large restaurant called The Gardens, opened in the late 1970s when the area was still on the edge of the city. Before that, the land was farmed for wheat, barley, chickpeas and lentils.
Today the street is a busy mixed-use area. It has restaurants ranging from international fast-food chains to local eateries, grocery and supply shops, three-star hotels, and commercial buildings housing companies, engineering and law offices and medical clinics. That mix makes it practical for people who want to live and work in the same part of the city.
Services in and around the area include:
- Hospitals: Gardens Hospital, Ibn Al Haytham Hospital and the Saudi Hospital
- Schools: the Latin Patriarchate School, the Arab Model Schools and the Modern English Schools
- Shopping: Amman Mall, Rawan Mall and Nouman Mall
- Banks: Arab Bank, Jordan Islamic Bank and Safwa Islamic Bank
