Dahyet Al Nakheel lies on the western side of Amman, near the Airport Road and Queen Alia International Airport. Unlike much of the city, the ground here is flat rather than hilly, and the area has plenty of green space and gardens. Its elevation makes winters colder than in most of Amman, often with thick fog.
Until around the 1960s this was open farmland. Families gradually bought plots and built homes, and it grew into an established residential suburb. Today it is known for villas and upscale housing projects, and its apartment and land prices are described as among the higher ones in Jordan. A large share of residents are expatriates from the US, Europe and the Gulf.
The level streets suit walking, running and cycling. Local landmarks include Nakheel Village restaurant, Al Muhsinat Mosque, Fatima Al Zahra School and the Ward w Harir resort and spa for women. Universities within reach include Petra University, Al Zaytoonah University of Jordan and the German university, and the Abu Al-Sous and Naour health centres serve the wider area.
It suits families looking for a quiet neighbourhood with services close at hand.
