Airport Road has changed from a desert transit route into a busy corridor running south from Amman towards Queen Alia International Airport, which opened in 1983 in Zizya and replaced the old Marka airport. Many districts feed into it, including the 7th Circle, the 4th Circle, Al Muqabalen, Deir Ghbar, Marj Al Hamam, the Abdoun corridor and Dahyet Al Yasmeen.
Growth followed the airport. Private universities such as the University of Petra, Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan and Middle East University brought students, factories and companies created jobs, and a service road with fuel stations, markets and restaurants runs beside the highway. Newer residential clusters such as Hay Al Sahaba and Dahiyat Al Nakheel have appeared, and developers keep adding projects along the route.
For leisure there are Amman National Park, the Kingdom of Bahrain Forest, Ghumdan Park, Magic Land, the Arab Horse Club and IKEA. Schools listed for the area include the International School of Choueifat and Carthage International Schools, and shopping options include City Star Mall and Pavilion Mall.
