About Al Abdali

Al Abdali sits at the centre of Amman and is named after the founding King Abdullah I. Once known as the ‘fourth region’, it is now the city's ninth administrative area. It covers four main neighbourhoods, each with its own character: Al Weibdeh, Jabal Al Hussain, Al Shmesani and Al Madenah Al Reyadeyeh (Sports City).

History and new development sit side by side. The Amman Citadel, the Umayyad Palace, the Temple of Hercules, the Jordan Museum, the King Abdullah I Mosque and the Grand Husseini Mosque are within or near the district, while the Abdali Boulevard adds towers, shopping centres, restaurants and cafés. Housing ranges from the older buildings of Al Weibdeh, which are popular with expats, to modern residences such as Damac Tower Amman, and the green spaces of Sports City appeal to families.

Many public bodies are based here, including the Parliament, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Awqaf and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Hospitals include Abdali Hospital, Al Kindi Hospital, the Islamic Hospital, Al Ahli Hospital and Palestine Hospital, and Terra Sancta College is among the local schools. The old Abdali bus station was moved to Jordan Street near Queen Alia Hospital as part of the Abdali project; the North bus station there now carries its role.
