Renting an apartment directly from the owner in Amman
General information only, not legal, financial, tax or government advice. Rules, fees and prices change: check the current position with a lawyer and the relevant government office before you rely on it.
The short answer
On Hagzi you can filter rentals to those posted by owners. Renting directly means you talk to the person who decides, and you usually pay no agent’s commission. You also do the checks an agent would do: confirm the person owns the apartment or may rent it, read the lease carefully and get receipts for every payment.

Owner or agency: the difference
An owner listing is posted by the person renting out the home. An agency listing is posted by a real estate office, which may show you many homes, arrange visits and help with the lease, and usually charges a commission. Both can be a good choice; it depends on how much help you want.
What to check when you rent from an owner
- Ask for the title deed (سند التسجيل) or a power of attorney if someone else is renting it out, and check the name matches their ID.
- See the apartment in person before you pay anything.
- Agree the rent, the payment dates, what is included and the deposit in writing.
- Read every clause of the lease, including renewal, notice and repairs.
- Pay by bank transfer or cheque, or get a signed receipt for cash.
- Photograph the apartment and the meters on the day you move in.
Warning signs
- Being asked to pay a deposit before you see the apartment.
- A price far below similar apartments in the same area.
- Someone who cannot show papers or refuses a written lease.
Frequently asked questions
How do I see only owner listings on Hagzi?
Use the advertiser filter in search and choose owner, or open the link on this page for Amman rentals from owners.
Is renting from the owner cheaper?
You usually save the agent’s commission. The rent itself depends on the apartment and the market, not on who posts it.
Do I need a written lease with an owner?
Yes. A written lease protects both of you and is needed for registration and for many services. Our pages on the Landlords and Tenants Law and lease registration explain the basics.
Are agencies bad?
No. A good office saves time and can help with the paperwork. Choose based on the help you need.
