Al Thuhir is one of the newer neighbourhoods on the edge of Amman. It is part of Marj Al Hamam and runs alongside Airport Road, which links it with the Eighth Circle. Its open views, clean air and the palaces, villas and large homes now being built there have given it an upscale reputation, and it attracts people who want to live away from the crowding and noise of the city.
Standing more than 1,000 metres above sea level, Al Thuhir has mild, pleasant summers, while winters are cold and often foggy as low cloud settles over the hills.
Services are shared with Marj Al Hamam:
- Private schools including Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein School, the Rosary Sisters School and Al Khamayel School, plus public schools in Marj Al Hamam
- Health centres and clinics on the edges of the neighbourhood
- Shops and markets close by
- Main roads such as Airport Road and the Dead Sea road, with the Great Arab Revolt Square between Al Thuhir and the industrial area
The neighbouring industrial area has many car repair workshops and other businesses that serve the surrounding districts.
