Swaileh is one of Amman's older districts, set on high ground in the north-west of the city within the University district. It lies along the main Amman–Salt road, the route that links the capital with Al Balqa and the north of Jordan, and at around 1,150 metres it has a mild climate. That crossroads position turned it into a busy centre for trade, transport and services.
In recent years the area has gained new residential complexes and basic services, and it draws families looking for a practical place to live. It borders Wadi Al Seer and Bader Al Jadedeh to the south, Ain AlBasha to the north, Al Fuhays to the west, and Telaa Al Ali and Al Jubayha to the east. Its neighbourhoods include Al Kamaliya, Hadaeq Al Hussein, Al Hummar, Dabouq, Hay Al Rahmanieh and Al Forousyah, along with the market quarter.
Local landmarks include Swaileh National Park, the Great Swaileh Mosque, the municipal amphitheatre and Al Hussein park. Schools range from the area's secondary schools for boys and for girls to UNRWA schools and a vocational school, and health services include a public health centre, specialist clinics and the Noor Al Hussein Foundation.
