Al Jubayha is the centre of the University district in north-west Amman and was once known as Khirbet Al Louzyeen. It lies broadly between Jordan Street to the east and Queen Rania Street to the west, with Shafa Badran and Abu Nsair to the north and Telaa Al Ali, Um Al Summaq and Swaileh to the west. Its neighbourhoods include Hay Al Jamea, Al Rashid, Al Mansour, Al Zaytouna and Iskan Al Jamea.
The area's original families include the Al Louzi and Al Adwan clans. A village council was set up in 1964, a municipality followed in 1967, and Al Jubayha joined Greater Amman in 1987. Its population grew notably after the Second Gulf War, when many Jordanians returned from the Gulf states.
Education and health care shape daily life here. The University of Jordan and Princess Sumaya University are in the area, with the German Jordanian University and Applied Science University also listed nearby, alongside the University of Jordan Hospital, the King Hussein Cancer Center and Al Israa Hospital. Al Jubayha Recreational City, many restaurants and cafés, and several bus stations within a few kilometres add to the convenience.
