Um Uthaina is a relatively young neighbourhood in the Zahran area of south-west Amman that grew quickly from the 1990s, to the point where empty plots are now rare. It is framed by Mecca Street to the north and Zahran Street to the south, with Swefiyeh, Abdoun, the 6th Circle and Al Rabiah as neighbours. King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Street divides it into a western part behind the 6th Circle, near the Haramain roundabout and the Suhaib tunnel, and an eastern part behind the 5th Circle, bounded by Mecca, Zahran and Al Kindi streets.
Despite its small size, the area combines homes with a strong commercial presence: local and international companies, offices, a market known for its gold and diamond shops, and hotels including the Four Seasons and the Crowne Plaza, formerly the Amra hotel. Property here is known for high values, and traffic in and out is heavy.
Many streets carry the names of Arab cities and figures, such as Jeddah, Riyadh, Kirkuk and Al Najaf. Other landmarks include Jordan Gate Towers, the Sedo Al Kurdi mosque and the King Hussein Cancer Foundation. Healthcare nearby includes the Arab Medical Centre and the Istishari Hospital, and malls within reach include Galleria Mall, Avenue Mall and Al Baraka Mall.
