Al Shmesani falls under the Al Abdali area of Qasabat Amman and links easily with the rest of the capital. Al Rabiah and Gardens Street lie to the west, Queen Rania Street and Hussein Sports City to the north, Jabal Al Weibdeh, Jabal Al Hussain and Al Abdali to the east, and Wadi Saqra and Jabal Amman to the south, with quick access to the Fourth and Fifth Circles.
From the 1980s the district became a centre for business, hotels, shopping, restaurants and cafés. Banks, major companies, international hotel chains and hospitals chose it for their headquarters before opening branches elsewhere, and several government institutions are based here. The name is linked to the word for sun, with local stories about Circassian shepherds drying washed wool on its sunny slopes.
Property interest grew when the Housing Bank complex was built, and the area is also valued for its older private houses and long-established apartment buildings. Prices are known to be among the higher ones in Amman.
