Marj Al Hamam is a suburb on the south-western edge of Amman, administered under the Wadi Al Seer district and more recently brought into Greater Amman Municipality. It covers a wide stretch of land from Airport Road towards Al Shouneh, which makes it a natural route to Queen Alia International Airport and, along Al Salam Road, down to the Jordan Valley.
The area grew from farmland into a residential suburb after the 1970s, when housing projects such as Iskan Aliya, a teachers' housing scheme and an officers' housing scheme brought in hundreds of families. Homes today range from villas and detached houses to apartment buildings, and the area has long drawn people working at the airport, the private universities on Airport Road and the companies along that corridor. Sitting at roughly 1,000 metres, it has mild summers and cool, often foggy winters.
Daily needs are covered by local shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bank branches, a Ministry of Health centre and a post office. Schools include Marj Al Hamam Secondary School for Boys and Aisha Secondary School for Girls, alongside several private schools. Dalla and Bardini roundabouts are the usual reference points for directions. For weekends, residents have the local municipal park and nearby green spots such as Wadi Al Shita, Al Bahhath spring and the Shaghour waterfalls park.
